Peekish helps you read foreign restaurant menus, decide what to order, and save the dishes you love. We built it to be privacy-respecting: we do not run an account server, and your profile and saved dishes are stored in your own private iCloud account — not on any server we control. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app handles, why, and who it is shared with.

1. Summary (the short version)

2. Data we process and why

2.1 Menu photos (Camera and Photo Library)

When you scan a menu — either with the camera or by choosing an existing photo — the image is sent to Google's Gemini API to extract and translate the dishes. We do not retain the image on any server of ours after processing. Google processes the image under its own terms (see Section 4).

2.2 Location

When you open the Discover screen or the "Nearby" section, with your permission Peekish uses your approximate location (when-in-use) to find restaurants around you. Your coordinate is sent to Google Places (through our Cloudflare relay) and used with Apple Maps to draw the map. A short list of nearby places is cached on your device so we don't have to look it up repeatedly.

2.3 Dish-name image lookups

To show a picture of a dish, the dish name (text only, no personal data) is sent through our Cloudflare relay to image providers (Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay) which return matching photos.

2.4 Your profile and saved dishes

The profile you create during onboarding (name, username, country, language, dietary allergies, and an optional photo) and every dish you save are stored on your device and, when you are signed into iCloud, synced through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) in your own private database. This lets your data appear on your other devices signed into the same iCloud account. It is stored under your Apple ID — we, the developer, have no server and cannot access your private iCloud data. If you are not signed into iCloud, the data stays only on your device. Deleting your dishes in the app, or removing the app's iCloud data, removes them.

2.5 Anonymous usage analytics (TelemetryDeck)

We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the app is used in aggregate. It records a small number of events — when a menu scan completes, when the Decision Helper is used, when the paywall is shown, when a purchase is made, and when a memory card is shared — together with coarse, non-identifying context (such as app version and device type). TelemetryDeck does not collect your name, email, IP-based location, or an advertising identifier, and does not track you across other apps.

2.6 Crash and error diagnostics (Sentry)

We use Sentry to receive automatic reports when the app crashes or hits an error, so we can fix it. A report can include technical details such as device model, operating system version, app version, and a trail of recent in-app actions ("breadcrumbs", e.g. "scan_complete"). These breadcrumbs are non-personal event names; we do not attach your profile to them.

2.7 Purchases

If you buy a subscription or a Trip Pass, the payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store; we never see your card details. Our subscription tooling RevenueCat and the app receive only the purchase status needed to unlock features and restore purchases.

2.8 Sign in with Apple

Peekish offers Sign in with Apple, or you can continue as a guest. If you sign in, the app receives a stable, app-specific identifier that it stores to recognise your account; you can choose Apple's "Hide My Email" so your real address is never shared. This identity is used only to associate your account and is not sold or used for advertising.

2.9 Saving a memory card to Photos

When you tap "Save to Photos", Peekish writes the image you created to your photo library. This requires your permission and stays on your device.
